Shredding

Do yourself a favor and use pressure on the downstroke, take the potato off the shredder and then pressure on the downstroke, don't just wildly go up and down, you will make a mess.  If you are afraid of grating some of your thumb into the potatoes (in this case extra protein isn't tasty) then hold the potato with a towel.  Shred into a couple paper towels or a towel.
